As a lawyer, I represent the poor in a society where some believe that justice is only for the Rich. I fight for girls who have been made to feel like objects used by men—I fight for girls so that they may find their worth and begin to dream again.

As a nurse, my desire is to help improve the health and wellness of people in different communities. I want to help end the cycle of sexual violence because I understand what trauma looks like. Being a survivor, I would like to help other survivors through the journey of healing and help bring back justice to the girl child.

Sexual violence it is one of the greatest social evils in our communities today. I believe that it's time for communities to stand against it. Now as Freely in Hope's Program Manager, I am ending sexual violence every day by educating teachers, caregivers, boys, girls, and children about sexual violence and its prevention. We can make the world a better place.

December’s Hopeful News
We’ve done a lot this year, pivoting our outreach programs during a pandemic, ensuring safe housing and education for our scholars, and learning to disseminate lifesaving materials on sexual violence prevention, advocacy, and reporting to our communities in new ways.

Our 2020 Highlights!
The pandemic was difficult for us all. Overall, it has challenged us to innovate and find unique ways of serving our communities in Kenya and Zambia. Together we reached over 13,172 people this year! Programs provided critical resources for survivors, engaging programs for our global audience, and important education on ending sexual violence. This year we reached thousands more than we would have before!

How Language Perpetuates Sexual Violence
The use of violent language against women and girls is rooted in toxic power dynamics, and if we are to deal with it we must uproot it from it’s core. I believe that the starting point would be to call it what it is: sexual violence.

Upholding Academic Excellence During a Pandemic

Empowering Survivors to End Sexual Violence
As a leader in social impact the change doesn’t come from you. The “social” in “social impact” at its core implies the ownership and involvement of the community.

Innovating in a Pandemic
Even though COVID-19 is new, the trauma it has caused is not; therefore we are able to learn from past experiences and use that as a way to propel us forward.

Storytelling as Empowerment
If we believe that inherent dignity is within every single human being, we won’t call them words that we wouldn’t want to be called, we wouldn’t tell their story in a way that we wouldn’t want our story told because we see them in a higher light.

Fighting for Wholeness
Wholeness looks like the art of kintsuge – broken pieces of pottery that are mended together with pure gold. This image reminds me to accept the way things are within myself, while also moving toward the woman I am becoming, for she can be both broken and whole at the same time.

#BlackLivesMatter Everywhere
At Freely in Hope, we believe that recognizing the inherent dignity of oppressed peoples is essential to the pursuit of justice.
